The Pocket Watch

A long time ago, the boss at an ice plant lost his pocket watch in the warehouse where the ice was stored. In those days, ice was stored in sawdust to make it last. The boss told his workers, “I’ll give a dime to whoever finds and returns my watch.”

Now in those days, it took a couple of hours to earn a dime, so the hunt was on! By lunch time, the watch was still lost. By 1:00PM, a young boy emerged from the warehouse with the prize! When asked how he found it, the little guy said, “I ate my lunch in the warehouse – but I was very quiet. After a while, I could hear the watch ticking. Once I could hear it ticking, I quietly moved to where it was ticking the loudest – I simply reached down and picked it up.” 
   
In our culture, louder is often better. Think about it, Concerts, Movies, Music, Parades; they all could be turned down a notch or two.

 Believe it or not, God, the Creator of the universe longs to speak to us. But with all the 'loudness' that goes on all around it can be difficult to hear His voice.

In the Bible, 1 Kings 19, we read how Elijah heard the voice of God.

1 Kings 19:11-13   ...a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. 12 After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. 13 When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave.

 But sometimes, it’s the still small voice that Elijah heard that is most profound.  We read in the book of Psalms, "Be still and know that I Am God." (Psalms 46:10) The command “Be still” can be interpreted as “dead air,” and makes people feel awkward or uncomfortable if extended for more than a few moments. 

We’ve become accustomed to earbuds, headphones, and high end speakers and subwoofers to provide a constant stream of auditory stimulation. The young boy in the ice plant found something valuable because he was able to quiet himself. I think that we might find something valuable too if they would find room for quiet.

Father God, I am so thankful that You still speak to us today. Help us Lord to be sensitive to Your still small voice. I think of the words of Samuel, "Speak Lord for your servant in listening." May we take time to quiet ourselves each day to hear what you would have to say. In Jesus Name, Amen.

Only God is called "I AM"

Have you ever read the Bible and have something jump out at you? Something that hits your inner most being leaving you with this over whelming feeling that nothing is hidden from God.

 Well that is exactly what Isaiah 47:8 did for me today. It says:

“Now then, listen, you lover of pleasure, lounging in your security and saying to yourself, ‘I am, and there is none besides me...”

 WOW!  How many times have I used the name of God to declare something I plan to do?

You see, in the old testament when Moses asked God, "Whom shall I say is sending me?" God said to Moses, “I AM who I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I AM has sent me to you.’” (Exodus 3:14) So God's name is I AM!

 My mind was flooded with how many times I use the words, "I am". Using God's name to declare something 'I am' going to do. You know, things like: "I am going here or there. I am going to do this or that. I am a good leader. I am a good teacher. etc. Such talk is nothing more than lifting up myself and boasting on my capability of accomplishing something.

 When God made it very clear that Without Him I can do nothing! (John 15:5)

 Could this be the reason that James wrote in his book, (in the Bible)  "Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.” Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say, “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.” (James 4:13-15)

 Let me encourage you to give God He proper place of honor in your life. For truly without Him we can do nothing!

 PRAYER:  Father God, thank you for giving me this revelation. Please forgive me for all the times I have used Your name to boast about myself or declare something I will do. May I be more aware, than ever before, that it is You who enables me to do all I do. In Jesus name, Amen

What Are You Thankful For?

It's all because of HIM.
My heart is thankful for so many things:
The families that I love,
The friendships that I treasure,
The beauty that fills the world around me...


It's all because of HIM.
My heart can be thankful
For every good gift,
For every sweet joy,
For every precious blessing --
and for all the wonderful people
He has brought into my my life.

~ ~ ~
The 'HIM' is none other than Jesus Christ!
Life has not always been easy. However, He as been with me every step of the way, and for that I am forever grateful.

Being thankful is all about choice and...

"I will give thanks to You, Lord, with all my heart;
I will tell of all Your wonderful deeds." -- Psalm 9:1

We Believe

Learning To Trust

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. ~ Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust can be a difficult thing to do at times. Let's face it, there are times when people do or say things that would give us reason not to trust them.

 In my journey with Jesus Christ I have learned to trust Him. Key word being 'learned'. Trust is not something that comes easy, even when it comes to God. More often than not people blame God for the difficulties that come into their lives. If the truth be told, most of the time we face difficulties because of choices we have made or choices others have made. 

 In my quite time this morning I was reading from 'The Delight of Being His Daughter' By: Dotty Schmitt. Here's what I read.

 "For so long I had asked, "Lord help me to trust You." It now appeared as though He were saying, "Daughter, can I trust you? Will you stand under pressure? Will you believe even in the darkness of circumstances? Will you give to others even when you feel you have need of being given to? Will you trust Me in the humdrum of everyday?"

 I confess there have been times in my life when I'm sure God couldn't trust me. Times when caved under pressure and didn't believe in the darkest times. And in the humdrum of life, I am guilty there as well. As for giving, I can truly say, that is one area I really don't struggled with. Just ask my husband. LOL

 I have learned to trust God over the years because He has proven himself to be trustworthy. My prayer today is that He has learned that He can trust me as well.

So, let me ask you, "Can God Trust You Today?"

Trust can be a difficult thing to do at times. Let's face it, there are times when people do or say things that would give us reason not to trust them.

 In my journey with Jesus Christ I have learned to trust Him. Key word being 'learned'. Trust is not something that comes easy, even when it comes to God.
