New Year's Prayer

During the New Year may you have:

- Enough happiness to keep you sweet
- Enough trials to keep you strong,
- Enough sorrow to keep you human
- Enough hope to keep you happy,
- Enough failure to keep you humble
- Enough success to keep you eager,
- Enough friends to give you comfort
- Enough wealth to meet your needs,
- Enough enthusiasm to make you
look forward to tomorrow,
& Enough determination to make
each day better than the day before.

Lord, please help us to use the 8,760 hours of 2013 the wisest way we can for you, & for your glory.
In Jesus Name, Amen!

If you would like special prayer...

Last Minute Quilting!

Just Take Me To The Stable!

This year, the days leading up to Christmas were a bit stressful for me. It's probable because a week and a half before the big day I decided I would make my grandson the red and black quilt he has asked for many times.

Hours went into this assuring this gift would be finished, wrapped, and under the tree by Christmas evening ... which was the time we would be with him. One day I worked from 4:30am till 6:30pm, with an half hour break for lunch. My husband was so patient with me as I put all my efforts into making sure this project was done on time.

My list of 'Must Do Now' was becoming a challenge as so many other things were demanding my attention. Things like: decorating and cleaning our home, planning and preparation for open house for family and friends, shopping, wrapping and church events, just to name a few. Needless to say I was starting to feel the pressure of it all.

Four days before Christmas I was talking to God and I heard myself saying, "Father, Just take me to the stable. I don't want the tree with pretty light, the stockings and bows. I don't want the phone calls and shopping list. I just want to go to the stable, sit in the hay and spend time with Jesus!"

It's so easy to get caught up in all the hussle and bustle of Christmas and loose sight of what it's all about. Christmas is not the lighted trees, the stocking filled with special things, or the gifts under the tree.

Christmas is celebrating the greatest gift ever given...Jesus Christ! It's about the Love of a Heavenly Father who gave His very best for man kind. It's about Family, Love and Forgiveness.

After these past two weeks I have been reminded that Christmas is all about taking time to just sit in the stable and spend time with the one we are celebrating ... Jesus!

Christmas ... Christ Has Redeemed all Infirmities So That Mankind is Assured of Salvation.

The quilt...I finished it on Christmas day and wrapped it two hours before it was given to my grandson. He Loved It!

Journey To The Stable ~ Part One

Just Take Me To The Stable
Part One

In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. This was the first census that took place while Quirinius was governor of Syria. And everyone went to his own town to register. So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. ~ Luke 2:1-5

Not a year goes by that I don’t think of Mary and the journey she and Joseph had to make to Bethlehem. I can just see it now as Joseph begins the conversation; “Mary, Caesar Augustus has issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. We have to travel to Bethlehem as soon as possible.”

Now we don’t know for sure how Mary responded to this news. But I know how most women ... myself included ... would respond to something like this today.

"Modern" Mary’s would take one look at the condition of her body turn to Joseph and says, “You have got to be joking, right?”  Then a flood of questions would fill her mind as she thought about what could happen on this trip and what it meant for her and the child who would soon to born.

You see, it is 80 miles between Nazareth and Bethlehem, a trip that would be nothing if traveling by car.  But by donkey, with a woman only days away from giving birth, this journey was no easy task. It took them at least a week to make this trip.

Think about that...No car...No paved roads...No hotels...No restaurants not even a McDonalds...No comfortable rest stops along the way...No protection from the hot sun by day or the cool at nights...and riding on the back of a donkey, just days before giving birth. I don’t know about you but that is not a trip I would be looking forward to!

Do you know that nothing takes God by surprise? Often times in our lives we face challenging situations that we wonder who in the world are things going to work out. Situations flood our minds with questions, worries and even fear. Let's face it, the uncertainties of life can be stressful at times.

God knew that Mary and Joseph would have to make the trip from Nazareth to Bethlehem. He also knew it would be challenging but He was going to be with them every step of the way.

What are you facing today? Does the road ahead of you seem filled with impossibilities. Are you fearful of what lies ahead, with uncertainties of things to come? Know this, God is always here for you, waiting for you to ask Him for help.

It's easy to talk to Him. Talk to Him like you would your best friend. You can tell him anything!

I pray for you today.

Father God in heaven, I ask that You will be with those reading this blog today. Help them to know that You care about every area of their lives and that You are there to help them through any situation, all they need to do is ask. In Jesus name, Amen

Cranky Old Man

When an old man died in the geriatric ward of a nursing home in an Australian country town, it was believed that he had nothing left of any value.
Later, when the nurses were going through his meager possessions, They found this poem. Its quality and content so impressed the staff that copies were made and distributed to every nurse in the hospital.

One nurse took her copy to Melbourne. The old man's sole bequest to posterity has since appeared in the Christmas editions of magazines around the country and appearing in mags for Mental Health. A slide presentation has also been made based on his simple, but eloquent, poem.

And this old man, with nothing left to give to the world, is now the author of this 'anonymous' poem winging across the Internet.

Cranky Old Man

What do you see nurses? . . . . . .What do you see?
What are you thinking . . . when you're looking at me?
A cranky old man, . . . . . . not very wise,
Uncertain of habit .. . . . . . . . . with faraway eyes?
Who dribbles his food . . . . . . . . and makes no reply.
When you say in a loud voice . . 'I do wish you'd try!'
Who seems not to notice . . . the things that you do.
And forever is losing . . . . . . . . . A sock or shoe?
Who, resisting or not . . . . . . lets you do as you will,
With bathing and feeding . . . .The long day to fill?
Is that what you're thinking?. . Is that what you see?
Then open your eyes, nurse . . . you're not looking at me.

I'll tell you who I am . . . . . . As I sit here so still,
As I do at your bidding, . . . . . as I eat at your will.
I'm a small child of Ten . . . with a father and mother,
Brothers and sisters . . . . . . . who love one another
A young boy of Sixteen . . . . . with wings on his feet
Dreaming that soon now . . . . . . a lover he'll meet.
A groom soon at Twenty . . . . . my heart gives a leap.
Remembering, the vows . . . . . that I promised to keep.

At Twenty-Five, now . . . . . I have young of my own.
Who need me to guide . . . And a secure happy home.
A man of Thirty . . . . . . . My young now grown fast,
Bound to each other . . . . With ties that should last.
At Forty, my young sons . . . have grown and are gone,
But my woman is beside me . . . to see I don't mourn.
At Fifty, once more, . . . . . Babies play 'round my knee,
Again, we know children . . . . My loved one and me.

Dark days are upon me . . . . My wife is now dead.
I look at the future . . . . . . . I shudder with dread.
For my young are all rearing . . . . young of their own.
And I think of the years . . . And the love that I've known.

I'm now an old man . . . . . . . . and nature is cruel.
It's jest to make old age . . . . . . . look like a fool.
The body, it crumbles . . . . . grace and vigour, depart.
There is now a stone . . . where I once had a heart.
But inside this old carcass . . . A young man still dwells,
And now and again . . . . . my battered heart swells
I remember the joys . . . . . . . I remember the pain.
And I'm loving and living . . . . . . . life over again.

I think of the years, all too few . . . . gone too fast.
And accept the stark fact . . . that nothing can last.
So open your eyes, people . . . . . . . . . open and see.
Not a cranky old man . . . .
Look closer . . . . see . . . . . . . . . . . . ME!!

Remember this poem when you next meet an older person who you might brush aside without looking at the young soul within. We will all, one day, be there, too!

Christmas Tree Give A Way Up-Date ~ 2012

On December 9th our church held it's annual

 'Coventry Christmas Celebration'

Over one-hundred and thirty families received a Christmas tree and filled stockings for their children.

The rain did not hinder the Christmas spirit. Families found shelter in the sanctuary where they heard the Christmas story and watched Christmas shows on the big screen, all while enjoying hot food and drinks.

Maybe next year you and your family will be able to join us.

Giving hope to others, that is exactly what Jesus did when He came to earth as a baby many years ago. Hope for all mankind, not just for life here on earth, but for eternity as well.

Peace of Mind

Peace is something that comes on the inside. It is not something that we can conger up ourselves, it comes only from God.

However, there are things we can do to open the way for peace to come.

Duke University did a study on Peace of mind. They found that the following factors contributed greatly to emotional and mental stability. They are:

1.  The absence of suspicion and resentment.
         * Nursing a grudge was a major factor in unhappiness.

2.  Not living in the past.
         * An unwholesome preoccupation with old mistakes and

            failures leads to depression.

3.  Not wasting time and energy fighting conditions you cannot

     change.
         * Cooperate with life, instead of trying to run away from it.

4.  Force yourself to stay involved with the living world.
         * Resist the temptation to withdraw and become reclusive

            during periods of emotional stress.

5.  Refuse to indulge in self-pity when life hands you a raw deal.
         * Accept the fact that nobody gets through life without some

            sorrow and misfortune.

6.  Cultivate the old-fashioned virtues–
         * love, humor, compassion and loyalty.

7.  Do not expect too much of yourself.
         * When there is too wide a gap between self-expectation and

your ability to meet the goals you have set, feelings of
             inadequacy are inevitable.

And the last one which I find most interesting is:

8.  Find something bigger than yourself to believe in.
         * Self-centered egotistical people score lowest in any test for

            measuring happiness and peace.

I always love it when the scientific community proves what God has done for us for thousands of years.

King David said: “I go to bed and sleep in peace, because, Lord, only you keep me safe.

Jesus said “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”

I pray for you today, asking the One and Only True God to help you on your journey. May the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, guard your heart and mind in Christ Jesus. Amen.

A Christmas Prayer

Our family has received some wonderful Christmas Cards
and I wanted to share some with you.

The following poem was taken from
"The Word of Christmas"
American Greetings
Cleveland, Ohio

A Christmas Prayer

With our hands, Lord,
may we work for You.

With our hearts,
may we always be kind.

With our eyes,
may we search far
and wide

For the good
You would like us to
find.

With our mouths,
may we speak loving things.

With our ears,
may we hear what is true.

With our minds,
may we be wise enough

To live our whole lives for You.
