Shrek The Sheep

Meet Shrek

Shrek became famous several years ago when he was found after hiding out in caves for six years. During this time his fleece grew without anyone to shorn (shave) it. When he was finally found and shaved, his fleece weighed an amazing sixty pounds.

Most sheep have a fleece weighing just under ten pounds. However, there is the exception usually reaching fifteen pounds, maximum.

For six years, Shrek carried six times the regular weight of his fleece. Simply because he was away from his shepherd. When Shrek was found, a professional sheep shearer took care of Shrek’s fleece in twenty-eight minutes. Shrek’s sixty pound fleece was finally removed. All it took was coming home to his shepherd.

Jesus said:

"I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep." John 10:11

"I am the good shepherd, I know my sheep and my sheep know me..." John 10:14

Reading about Sherk makes me think of those who know Jesus Christ yet they have chosen to wondered away from him.

If we avoid Christ’s constant refining of our character, we’re going to accumulate extra weight in this world—a weight we don’t have to bear.

If we stop hiding from Christ, He can lift the burdens we carry. Shave off our 'fleece' as it were — our self-imposed burdens brought about by wandering from our Good Shepherd.

Jesus is always calling us to come closer to Him. He said, “Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30

I pray that you will choose to allow the Good Shepherd, Jesus Christ, to lift your burdens and give you peace that can only come from Him.

TRUE LOVE...

It was approximately 8.30 a.m. on a busy morning when an elderly gentleman in his eighties arrived to have stitches removed from his thumb. He stated that he was in a hurry as he had an appointment at 9.00 a.m. I took his vital signs and had him take a seat. I knew it would take more than an hour before someone would to able to attend to him. I saw him check his watch anxiously for the time and decided to evaluate his wound since I was not busy with another patient. On examination, the wound was well healed. Hence, I talked to one of the doctors to get the supplies to remove his sutures and redress his wound. We began to engage in a conversation while I was taking care of his wound. I asked him if he had another doctor's appointment later as he was in such a hurry. The gentleman told me no and said that he needed to go to the nursing home to have breakfast with his wife. I inquired about her health. He told me that she had been in the nursing home for a while as she was a victim of Alzheimer's disease. I probed further and asked if she would be upset if he was slightly late. He replied that she no longer knew who he was and she had not been able to recognize him since five years ago. I asked him in surprise, "And you still go every morning, even though she doesn't know who you are?" He smiled as he patted my hand and said, "She doesn't know me, but I still know who she is." I had to hold back my tears as he left. I had goose bumps on my arm, and I thought, "That is the kind of love I want in my life." True love is neither physical nor romantic. True love is an acceptance of all that is, has been, will be, and will not be.

~ ~ ~

"She doesn't know me, but I still know who she is." Upon reading that statement my thought went right to The Lord Jesus Christ. Many in this world about Him. But did you know you can know Him personally? There is a difference.

King David said in Psalm 33:13-14  "From heaven the Lord looks down and sees all mankind; from his dwelling place he watches all who live on earth."

Nothing is hidden from Him...Now that could be a sobering thought. It is for me.

Think about it...All the things we can do in any given day that is not pleasing to God. All the thinks that offend Him...and yet He still loves us.

John 3:16  For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

Going to church doesn't make us a follower of Jesus Christ. Nor does it mean we have a personal relationship with Him. The only way we can know that we have come to know Him is, if we keep Him commands. ~ 1 John 2:3

Just as the old man in this story demonstrated his love for his wife; God demonstrated His love for us as well in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. ~ Romans 5:8

I pray that during the Christmas season you will come to Know the One who knows all about you and yet loves you anyway!

Relationships

Religion or Relationship?

Many in North America view Christianity as a religion. However, Christianity is not a religion at all; it is an intimate, growing relationship with none other than Jesus Christ, the Son of the Living God. It is not a set of doctrines to believe, habits to practice, or sins to avoid.

To be a Christian means one is ‘Christ Like’. In the book of Acts we can read in that; “The disciples were called Christians first at Antioch.” Why the word Christian? Because they were devoted followers of Jesus. Their relationship with Jesus had changed their lives drastically and their actions and speech reflected who they had become; like Christ.

God does not give us guidelines to be mean or cruel. Every command of God is intended to enhance His love relationship with His creation, mankind.

We have been designed to worship God and to see Him in His glory and to respond appropriately. Unfortunately, for many it has become a ‘religion’; one more meeting to attend out of habit, a social gathering filled with social activities.

God is longing for His creation to express their love for Him. Many time we feel if we use our gifts and talents in doing good deeds for others in our community we will appease God and pacify our guilty conscience.

God is a personal God, and He has given us prayer as a means of communicating with Him. Prayer is nothing more than talking with God like you would talk to a very close friend. After all, that is exactly what He longs to be; your very close friend.

Proverbs 18:24 says, “One who has unreliable friends soon comes to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.” Communication is a two way street. As you spend time talking with God take time to listen to what is on His heart a well. Yes, it is true God wants to speak to you! The greatest way He speaks in through His written Word the Holy Bible. Before you go to read, ask Him to speak to you and He will.

God instituted His commandments as a protection for those He loves, but the commandments can become a pathway to legalism rather than a avenue for a relationship with our Father in which He protects us from harm.

Religious activity apart from fellowship with God is nothing more than an empty ritual. The people of Jeremiah’s day were satisfied to have the ritual without the presence of God. They became so comfortable with their ‘religion’ that they didn’t even notice God’s absence. Their story is found in the Holy Bible in the book of  Jeremiah.

So, is it possible to pray, to attend a church service, or to give an offering yet not to experience the presence of God? It certainly is possible! And sad to say thousands of hurting people; looking for hope, peace and comfort have faced this emptiness. Many have said, “What the use. There is nothing to this ‘religion’ stuff.”

Let me encourage you ... Don’t settle for a religious life that lacks a vital relationship with Jesus Christ. When God is present, the difference will be obvious.

God wants us to experience Him and His presence.

Jesus said in the book of Matthew, chapter 18, verse 20 “Where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.”  He is not a liar. God always says what He means and He means what He says.

So, today if you have been one of those who have tried ‘religion’ and are still feeling empty, lonely and hurting; let me encourage you to find a Bible Believing Church; one who preaches and teaches Jesus Christ and get connected.

If you live in the Pottstown, Pennsylvania area and are looking for a group of people who love Jesus and are devoted to following Him; then I invite you to join us on Sunday mornings at 10am.

End of the World

Jesus sat, talking privately with His disciples concerning the end times. They asked His, "When will this happen and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?" Jesus replied, "Watch out that no one deceives you." He wanted them to know that in the end time many will come using His name, claiming to be the Messiah and many people will be deceived." He went on to say, "You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. These things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth pains." Matthew 24:3-8

According to Jesus, three things in particular will increase in frequency and intensity as the time draws closer to His return: Wars, Famines, Earthquakes.

As a believer in Jesus Christ, I have HOPE in knowing that all the happenings in our world today are leading up to His return. For those who have accepted Jesus as their Lord and have become devoted followers of Him that day will be filled with great joy. However, those who have not accepted Him will find themselves in a world that will be a billion times worse than it is now.

Maybe you have been wondering about all the things you are hearing in the news lately. Maybe you have even thought about the end of the world and found yourself becoming fearful. And maybe you have tried 'church' before and found it was not what you thought it would be.

Christianity is not just about going to church. It's about having a relationship with Jesus Christ Himself. That's what sets us apart from all the other 'religions' in the world.

If you have tried church, tried religion before and still feel empty inside, I invite you to give Jesus as try. He will NOT disappoint you!

Prayer:
Dear God in Heaven,
I come to your right now asking you to help me. It is true that I have tried this 'church thing' and I still feel empty inside. I may not understand how this 'Jesus thing' works but I am willing to give it a try. So, right now I ask You to forgive me for all my sin. (If specific things come to mind, tell God what they are. He already knows, He just wants you to confess them.) I invite Jesus to come into my life and give me peace. Show me God, what it means to have a relationship with Jesus. In Jesus name I pray, Amen!
If you live in the Pottstown, PA area I invite you to join us at Calvary Christian Center, a place where you can learn how to know Jesus in a personal way.  It's also a place where you will find people who will love you and help you on your new journey.

Come and See

Turning around, Jesus saw them following and asked, “What do you want?” They said, “Rabbi” (which means “Teacher”), “where are you staying?” “Come,” he replied, “and you will see.”So they went and saw where he was staying, and they spent that day with him. John 1:38-39

There comes a time for each of us when merely talking about Christianity is not enough. We must actually set out on the journey! Over the years people have spent many hours discussing issues related to the life of a Christian. All this talk means nothing if we never actually step out and follow Jesus Christ!

Perhaps the biggest discussion among the Jewish people has been about the coming of the Messiah. Andrew, who eventually became a follower of Jesus, had listened to John the Baptist talking about the coming Messiah. Now, in this passage of scripture, he is suddenly standing face to face with the One he so longed to see! Andrew's mind was filled with so many questions he wanted to ask Jesus.

As Jesus turned to walk away Andrew's heart began to beat faster, he didn't want his time with Jesus to be over. That's when Andrew took a chance and called out to Jesus, "Jesus, where are you staying?"  When Jesus hear this questions He turns around and says to Andrew, "Come and See".  What an invitation!

I have often though about what it would have been like if I had lived in those times. What if I had been the one asking Jesus where He was staying? Think about it, the very Son of the Living God, Jesus himself, the Messiah, giving me, Cindy McKinley, an invitation to walk along side Him. An invitation that Andrew accepted without reservation.

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to follow Jesus?
I once read, "Christianity is not a set of teachings to understand, it is a Person to follow." How true that is. You see, as Andrew walked with Jesus, he saw amazing things take place; Jesus healing the sick, teaching God's wisdom, and demonstrate God's power. Andrew not only learned about God; he actually experienced Him!

Andrew stood that day at a crossroad. He could have let Jesus just walk away, but he chose to follow Him instead. He took a chance in calling out to Jesus. After all what did he have to loose?

Maybe today you are finding yourself standing at a crossroad in your earthly journey. Maybe, like Andrew, you have a thousand questions you want to ask Jesus. Why not consider calling out to Him? When you do, He will invite you on a new journey. As the two of you walk together you too will come to know Him like you have never known Him before.

Prayer:
Father God, in heaven, Please forgive me for trying to do things my way. After all my trying things have not turned out so good. I choose today to follow You. Teach me to do things Your way. In Jesus name I pray, Amen!

If you live in or near Pottstown, Pennsylvania I invite you to join us at Calvary Christian Center, a place where you will experience Jesus.

Hot Pursuit

Did you know that most of the New Testament was written by a man whose number one goal was to persecute, imprison and even put to death those who believed in and followed the Lord Jesus Christ?

The Scripture tells us in the book of Acts, Chapter 9

Saul was still breathing out murderous threats against the Lord’s disciples. He went to the high priest and asked him for letters to the synagogues in Damascus, so that if he found any there who belonged to the Way, whether men or women, he might take them as prisoners to Jerusalem.

Truly he was in hot pursuit with only one goal on mind. Something happened on that road that changed his life forever. Saul, whose name was later changed to Paul, had a personal encounter with the Lord Jesus Christ. The Scripture goes on to say:

As he neared Damascus on his journey, suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him. He fell to the ground and heard a voice say to him, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?”  “Who are you, Lord?” Saul asked. “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting”.

This is an amazing story of what can happen in one's life after a genuine experience with Jesus.

The very one who was so set on destroying those who followed Jesus has now become a believer himself. No longer is his heart filled with hatred. No longer does he have the desire to stir up trouble. Instead he has turned his passionate focus, his un-distracted efforts toward a new goal. Leading others to the very one he fought against for so long.

Have you ever been in pursuit of something or someone? Isn't it interesting that once our minds are set on something we will stop at nothing to see it fulfilled.

As a follower of Jesus Christ I have come to realize that my pursuit of God is something I cannot take lightly. It is not a casual matter, it is a mind set, a choice, a determination, an un-distracted focus on serving Him and making heaven my eternal home.

What are you in pursuit of today? Which one can you relate to the most, Saul who was was filled with hatred? Or Paul who allowed Jesus Christ to totally change his life?

What has been done in the past doesn't matter. Jesus longs for you to really know Him and the love He has for you.

Would you consider taking the first step, if you haven't already? Simply talk to God. Ask Him to reveal Himself to you in a personal way. Tell Him how you feel. Tell Him you are sorry for the sin you have allowed to control your life and ask Him to forgive you. Then invite Him into your heart to become your life.  He loves you so very much.

I would love to hear from you. If you live in the Pottstown, PA area I invite you to join us on a Sunday morning. You will experience the love of God, through His followers at:

LIFE

Have you ever stop to think how many choices we make in any given day? It begins the moment we wake up each morning. We make the choice to get out of bed or roll over and go back to sleep. We choose whether we will go to work or stay home. As we go throughout our day we are faced with choices everywhere we turn.

When others do or say things that 'tick us off' we choose how we are going to respond. I recently heard that when something happens that upsets us we have a six second window to choose how we will respond to that situation. Six seconds can go by pretty fast.

Confession time here....I love doing for my family. But sometimes it would be nice to have their help. Like when we have all eaten dinner, which I have prepared, and everyone, except me, heads to the living room for a relaxing time in front of the television. Did you catch the part where I said, "Except Me!" While the entire family watches TV and talks and laughs together I am in the kitchen washing dishes and putting the leftovers away.

This happened a few weeks ago. As I was doing the dishes I could hear the laughter in the living room. At that very moment I could literally feel the frustration starting to rise up within me. I then experienced that six seconds. I even said to myself, "Girl, you have a choice here. Are you going to get upset or just finish the work and join them?" I regret to tell you I did not make the right choice. I choose to get upset and feel sorry for myself. Although I never said a word to my family, they knew Momma wasn't happy.

Let's face it. We all have situations that causes us to become angry or feel as though we are being taken advantage of. No matter what the circumstance we are always faced with a choice as to how we will respond.

God gives us choices as well. He is not some super power in the sky who cracks a whip to make us obey Him. No, He allows us to choose.

In the book of Deuteronomy God says, "...I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live."

WOW! What a choice...Life or death....Blessings or curses. That seems like a no brainer to me.

Choosing Life is choosing Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. Jesus Said, "I Am the Way, the Truth and the LIFE. No one can come to the Father except through Me."

God doesn't make us choose Him. He gives us a choice to do so. By choosing Him we received life and blessings. By not choosing Him we receive death and curses.

The choice is yours! Which will you choose today?

Father God, I pray for my readers today. May they choose life and blessings. Help them to know the deep love You have for them. Give them HOPE as they walk their journey on this earth. In Jesus Name I Pray, Amen
